Our Story

Grand Opening

As we reflect on our Grand Opening, on May 21, 2026, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who helped bring this moment to life. To every family who visited, every child who explored, every volunteer who gave their time, every donor and supporter who believed in this vision, and every community partner who helped make this possible, thank you.

After years of planning, collaboration, and dedication, it was incredible to finally open our doors and begin welcoming our community into kidSTREAM Children’s Museum. While opening day was a milestone, it is only the beginning. Together, we are building more than a museum, we are creating a place where imaginations can grow, discoveries can spark, and the next generation of innovators, creators, and problem-solvers can thrive.

Groundbreaking

A vision years in the making took a major step forward as kidSTREAM Children's Museum celebrated its groundbreaking on Friday, January 31, 2025. The ceremony was filled with excitement and hands-on learning opportunities, and marked the start of construction on a long awaited children’s museum for Ventura County.

The event featured a one-of-a-kind, kid-powered chain reaction, symbolizing the ripple effect of curiosity, collaboration, and discovery. As children from many of the families who volunteered and served on the board of directors over the years worked together to set off a sequence of ramps and fulcrums, culminating in the ceremonial turning of the soil, confetti cannons erupted in kidSTREAM’s signature colors, celebrating the moment with joy and excitement.

Our Roots

Since beginning as an idea shared around a kitchen table among a few friends, kidSTREAM has grown from a dream into Ventura County's children's museum, now open at 3100 E. Ponderosa Drive—the beloved former Camarillo Public Library.

By thoughtfully repurposing this cherished community landmark, we've preserved its legacy as a place of learning, discovery, and imagination, transforming it into a new educational destination that will inspire generations to come.

Since becoming a nonprofit, kidSTREAM has already reached more than 60,000 children and families throughout Ventura County. Now that our doors are open, we are projected to welcome more than 100,000 children and families each year.

We invite you to learn more about our journey through this short video, featuring many of the individuals whose vision, generosity, and dedication helped bring kidSTREAM to life.

Founding Friends

Our Founding Friends are the visionary individuals, families, and organizations who believed in kidSTREAM from the very beginning. Their early generosity transformed a bold idea into reality, laying the foundation for Ventura County's only children's museum and earning them the distinguished title of Founding Friend.
